Instructor Management for IND courses differs in comparison to other course types. 

  • IND courses use Instructor Lists. Administrators add one or more instructors to the list in the IND section.
  • When enrolling in MyUI, students choose an instructor from a drop-down list.
  • When an instructor is chosen, a unique section number is automatically generated for that instructor. Subsequent students who enroll with that instructor will be enrolled in the section already created.
  • As of 2016, legacy numbers for Independent Study Instructors were discontinued. Instructors do not have a unique number assigned to them.
  • Instructor Lists replicate from like session to like session (fall to fall, spring to spring, etc.)
  • Instructor Lists should be reviewed prior to the start of each session and instructors who no longer teach the course should be removed by the Academic Department Administrator. The Instructors Report in MAUI can assist with this task.

It is preferred that you search by HawkID or UID to ensure the correct individual is assigned as the instructor.

Review IND Instructor Lists

The MAUI report titled Instructor Report can be used to identify all individuals assigned as an instructor for Independent Study courses.

Remove Independent Study Instructors

IND courses are the only courses where instructors replicate. It is important for departments to review their IND instructor lists annually to ensure instructor list accuracy. 

Please follow these steps to remove individuals who should no longer display on an IND course instructor list.
