SPOT (Student Perceptions of Teaching) is an online survey that collects student opinions about an instructor and provides a standard set of summary results. Instructors may or may not be required to use SPOT and should check with their department to determine their options.

SPOT surveys are automatically scheduled when an instructor is assigned to a course section in one of the following roles: Primary Instructor, Teaching Assistant or Team Teacher. Administrators have the ability to change the SPOT survey to "no" on the Instructor panel in MAUI Offerings Planner.

While the SPOT process is managed through ITS, administrators are able to enter an alternate (override) date in MAUI for the SPOT survey to occur. One circumstance where this might be desired is if multiple instructors are assigned to only one portion of the semester. An override date could be entered for each Instructor to trigger their SPOT survey at the end of the portion of instruction for a course.

Please Note: When a course is off-cycle or if an override end date is entered, the survey is open for one week as opposed to two weeks for full semester courses where surveys occur at the end of the semester.
